Bella Lucia has lived the life of a film star, appearing in the film “Guarapo”, filmed in the Canary Islands.
This historical film was filmed in the islands of Tenerife and La Gomera (Canary Islands) in 1988 and premiered on 19 May 1989.
The film is set in the island of La Gomera, during the postwar period after the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). The plot revolves around the chieftaincy, the Franco regime and the illegal emigration of the Canarian people to America, Venezuela principally.
The plot tells us the story of Benito (Luis Suarez, Canarian actor), known as Guarapo. He is a young landless laborer, who dreams of migrating to America to build a better future.
Guarapo won Special Jury Mention in the Latin American Film Festival of Huelva (1988) and was nominated for a best director at the Goya Prize 1989.
